New Shows Coming to BritBox (US) in October 2024
October 1st
Shameless (2004 to 2013)
Created by Paul Abbott, this groundbreaking comedy-drama follows the chaotic lives of the Gallagher family and their neighbors in a fictional council estate in Manchester, England. At the center of the story is Frank Gallagher, an alcoholic single father of six children, who are largely left to fend for themselves due to his negligence. Known for its gritty realism and unflinching portrayal of working-class life, it's a far cry from the comparatively genteel worlds of shows like Miss Marple and Downton Abbey.
Seasons will premiere on the following dates:
- Season 1: October 1st, 7 episode binge
- Season 2: October 8th, 11 episode binge
- Season 3: October 15th, 8 episode binge
- Season 4: October 22nd, 8 episode binge
- Season 5: October 29th, 16 episode binge
October 3rd
Suspect, Season 2
In season 1, we followed James Nesbitt as veteran detective Danny Frater, a man beginning a deeply personal investigation when he goes to a hospital mortuary for what he thinks is a routine ID check on a young woman's body, only to discover that it's his estranged daughter Christina. Refusing to accept the official finding that she took her own life, he searched for the truth of her death.
The second season picks up where the first left off, with Dr Susannah Newman (Anne-Marie Duff, Bad Sisters) on a quest to find the truth about her daughter’s tragic death. When a mysterious new client Jon (Dominic Cooper, Preacher) makes a disturbing confession under hypnosis, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save a life, the way she couldn’t do with her own daughter.
Other cast members joining for the new season include Ben Miller (Professor T) as Detective Superintendent Richard Groves, Tamsin Greig (Friday Night Dinner) as Natasha Groves, Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point) as Louisa McAdams, Eddie Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe) as Alistair Underwood, Celine Buckens (Showtrial) as Sapphire, Nicholas Pinnock (For Life) as Joseph Buckley, and Gina McKee (Our Friends in the North) as Kate.
October 9th
The Inheritance (2013)
This four-part drama follows siblings Daniel (Robert James-Collier, Coronation Street), Sian (Gaynor Faye, Emmerdale Farm) and Chloe (Jemima Rooper, Silent Witness) all members of a seemingly close and loving family. After the sudden death of their father Dennis (Larry Lamb, Gavin & Stacey), the three are devastated to discover their father has left them out of his will. With everything they thought they knew about their family called into question, they begin to wonder whether their father's death was really an accident…or a murder. Four episode binge premiere.
October 11th
Race Across the World, Season 3
This British reality series follows pairs of travellers as they attempt to get to a set destination before any other competitors. They're given money equal to a round-trip plane ticket, but they're not permitted to fly. Instead, they have to use the funds for a combination of food, accommodation, and land or sea travel. Though they can work to earn money along the way, they're not allowed to bring any credit cards or mobile electronic devices (aside from a GPS device that tells them of their progress and ensures their safety). Each episode requires contestants to hit a pre-determined checkpoint, and the last couple to hit the checkpoint can be eliminated.
Seasons will air as follows:
- October 11th: Season 3, 9 episode binge premiere
- October 18th: Season 4, 9 episode binge premiere
No word on when or if other seasons will be added to the platform.
October 14th
Prison, Seasons 1 & 2
Filmed over the course of seven months inside HMP Durham, this groundbreaking series offers a realistic look at life behind bars. In three episodes (per season), we get a look at what life is like for both prisoners and the staff who oversee them. Two seasons of three episodes each will premiere all at once.
October 17th
Passenger (2024)
Set in the small Northern village of Chadder Vale, this dark comedy-thriller follows former Met detective Riya Ajunwa(Wunmi Mosaku, Loki), who relocates to the quiet town, only to find herself drawn into a series of strange and inexplicable events. After local girl Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson, A Haunting in Venice) is abducted and then mysteriously reappears unharmed the next day, Riya's suspicions grow, especially as the townspeople seem disturbingly indifferent to the event. As more unusual crimes unfold, Riya becomes convinced that something is deeply wrong in Chadder Vale, despite the community’s resistance to her investigation. Two episodes premiere weekly, with a total of six in the season.
October 25th
Not Going Out, Seasons 2-4
This British sitcom revolves around the life of Lee (Lee Mack, Murder, They Hope), a slacker who often finds himself entangled in various awkward situations. He spends a great deal of time with his best friend Tim (Tim Vine, The Sketch Show), Tim's sister Lucy (Sally Bretton, Beyond Paradise), and a number of their friends and acquaintances. Running since 2006, the series has gradually evolved from a sitcom about young adult friendships and romance to a run-of-the-mill family comedy.
It's worth noting that Peacock and Pluto each have 10 seasons available already (for free with ads) – and both have season 1. It's unknown when or if other seasons will be added to BritBox.

Murder in the Village: Who Killed the Doctor's Wife? (2024)
This two-part docuseries revisits one of Britain’s most puzzling cold cases. In 1983, Diane Jones, wife of beloved local GP Dr. Robert Jones, disappeared from their idyllic Essex home. Her body was later found with signs of foul play, but no suspect was ever identified. Forty years later, the series explores new evidence, pairing it with testimony from detectives, friends, and neighbors. Revealing unexpected details about Diane’s secret life, it suggests the truth is far more complex than it initially seemed. Two episode binge premiere.
October 30th
Inside No. 9, Season 9
This darkly hilarious anthology series returns for its ninth and final set of episodes (though I seem to recall at least one interview or social media comment where they said “final for a good while” rather than “for certain and forever”). From the elegance of an Edwardian country house to the grim reality of the last train home, from nosy neighbors to grave robbers, from illicit visits to the toilet to a ticking clock in a sinister escape room, this ninth collection is sure to send the series off with a bang. A deadly mixture of classical music, dubious morals and murders at midnight, Shearsmith and Pemberton present six more films to delight and disturb their many fans around the world as they open the door marked No.9 for the final time.
Guest cast members for the new season include Dorothy Atkinson (Pennyworth), Mark Bonnar (Guilt), Charlie Cooper (This Country), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Joel Fry (Plebs), Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street), Matthew Kelly (Cold Blood), Eddie Marsan (Vera Drake), Vinette Robinson (The A Word), Adrian Scarborough (The Chelsea Detective), Philippa Dunne (Derry Girls), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley), Hayley Squires (Adult Material) and Susan Wokoma (Cheaters).
