Most British TV fans keep a close eye on what's coming to BritBox and Acorn TV each month, but it's a little harder to keep up with the multitude of other services that occasionally offer new British shows. To help you keep track, we put together a list each month to look at those shows which:

  • Premiered in the UK within the last year or so
  • Are streaming for the first time (in the US) in September 2024

As we head towards autumn, the kids/grandkids are back in school, most people have returned from their holidays, and it's starting to get just a little chillier in some places – all factors that lead to more hours at home. That means the networks begin to roll out more of their “premium” premieres – big titles like Slow Horses and Moonflower Murders. So, while the actual number of new shows might be a little low this month, the shows coming out are some of the most hotly anticipated shows of the season.

Borderline

Borderline (Ireland, 2024)

This odd couple detective series pairs the upright and proper DI Philip Boyd from Northern Ireland with the rough-around-the-edges DI Aoife Regan from the Republic of Ireland. Despite their reluctance and contrasting styles, they must work together to solve brutal crimes occurring along the border. Amy De Bhrune (Line of Duty) stars as DI Regan, while Eoin Macken (Merlin) plays DI Boyd.

Premieres September 1st on Roku Channel.

Slow Horses

Slow Horses, Season 4

Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) returns as Jackson Lamb in the much-anticipated fourth season of this spy thriller series based on Mick Herron's Slough House novels. As head of Slough House, he's been charged with a set of spies who've all screwed up in some major way, and it's his job to keep them busy and out of trouble.

Returning cast members this season include Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient), Jack Lowden (The Gold), Saskia Reeves (Roadkill), Rosalind Eleazar (Deep Water), Christopher Chung (Waterloo Road), Aimee-Ffion Edwards (Detectorists), Kadiff Kirwan (Crims), and Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones). Those joining for the new season include Joanna Scanlan (No Offence), Hugo Weaving (Patrick Melrose), Ruth Bradley (Rebellion), Tom Brooke (Preacher), and James Callis (Battlestar Galactica).
