Great news for BritBox subscribers this month – the slow summer months are giving way to a seriously packed September schedule – including one of the most asked-about seasons of the year, season 28 of Silent Witness towards the end of the month. Keep reading for the full schedule + descriptions.

September 1st Premieres

Second Sight (2000 to 2001)

DCI Ross Tanner (Clive Owen) is a results-driven detective concealing progressive sight loss. DI Catherine Tully (Claire Skinner), an ambitious recruit drafted into his serious crime unit, becomes his unofficial eyes as they tackle cases from the apparently motiveless murder of a nineteen-year-old to building evidence against a prime suspect. Forced to adapt, Tanner leans less on tech and more on intuition and sound, while Tully’s overreach at times risks exposing his condition—and his position. Season 1 (4 x 60′) and season 2 (6 x 60′) will both be released as a binge.

Return to Paradise, Season 1

In the beachside hamlet of Dolphin Cove, Australian ex-pat detective Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson, Home and Away; Dead Lucky) is forced back from London to the hometown she couldn’t wait to escape. Known for an intuitive approach that cracks “impossible” cases, she returns to a community that would rather she’d stayed away—including the ex-fiancé she left behind. When murder hits the shoreline, six investigations pull her into the town’s secrets, pushing her to confront unfinished business while applying hard-won instincts against a spectacular coastal backdrop. There are six hour-long episodes, with one episode released each week.

September 3rd Premieres

Wire in the Blood, Seasons 1 & 2 (2002 to 2008)

DI Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris, Silent Witness; Luther) brings in clinical psychologist Dr. Tony Hill (Robson Green, Grantchester; Age Before Beauty) to profile a serial killer despite resistance from above. When a police officer is murdered, the case turns personal, even as parallel investigations unfold: the killing of a young Dutch nurse, the disappearance of a student’s best friend, and fresh hints from Tony’s incarcerated patient Maggie (Elaine Claxton, Black Mirror; Emmerdale Farm), a convicted child-killer whose clues may reveal where her victims were buried. Their uneasy partnership tests procedure, ethics, and how far profiling can go to catch a killer. Seasons 1 (3 x 12′) and 2 (4 x 90′) will be released all at once.

September 4th Premieres

Lynley, Season 1 (2025)

An aristocratic detective in a blue-collar squad, Tommy Lynley (Leo Suter) stands apart; Barbara Havers (Sofia Barclay) has little patience for pedigree or protocol. Pushed onto the same caseload, they learn to trade strengths—his reach and strategic calm, her instincts and refusal to defer—to solve what others can’t. The friction becomes a working method, and the job becomes their common ground. Four feature-length episodes will premiere on a weekly basis over four weeks.

September 10th Premieres

The Hardacres, Season 1 (2024)

In 1890s Yorkshire, an accident on the fish docks leaves Sam (Liam McMahon, Joan) and Mary (Claire Cooper, Suspects)—along with their children Joe (Adam Little, Coronation Street), Liza (Shannon Lavelle, Riot Women), and Harry (Zak Ford-Williams, Better), plus Mary’s indomitable mother Ma (Julie Graham, Shetland)—jobless and facing the workhouse. With nothing to lose, they stake their last coins on a radical business venture that propels them from quay-side hardship to the uncertainties of life on a country estate. The story tracks how new wealth tests loyalty, ambition, and belonging as an ordinary family navigates sudden change. Two hour-long episodes will premiere on September 10th, followed by single episodes each week for another four weeks.

Escape to the Country returns September 19th

Escape to the Country, Season 32

This popular, long-running series follows city-weary buyers as they hunt for peaceful village life across the British countryside. A presenter guides each search through three shortlisted homes—including the signature “mystery house”—while local stops reveal schools, transport links, and community perks. Wish lists span period charm, gardens, annexes for multi-generational living, space for hobbies or home businesses, and coastal or hill views. Along the way, priorities shift, compromises are tested, and the dream of a slower, greener life is weighed against practicality to decide which front door finally gets the keys. The new season features 55 hour-long episodes, which will be released at a pace of 5 episodes per week.

September 25th Premieres

Silent Witness, Season 28

At the Lyell Centre, Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox, Signora Volpe) and forensic specialist Jack Hodgson (David Caves, 15 Days) tackle five complex investigations with two new colleagues—veteran pathologist Professor Harriet Maven (Maggie Steed, Rivals) and sharp-eyed crime analyst Kit Brooks (Francesca Mills, Time Bandits). Their caseload ranges from suspected exploitation of elderly victims to the reappearance of a hammer-wielding attacker, a dismembered hand retrieved from a canal, and an unexplained death mid-flight. Combining pathology, trace analysis, and digital forensics, the team works alongside police to separate coincidence from culpability and build cases that stand up in court—while Nikki marks two decades in the role. The new season has 10 hour-long episodes, and they will be released at a pace of one per week.

The Change, Season 2

Linda (Bridget Christie, Ghosts) sparks uproar when neighbours uncover her “chore ledgers,” a meticulous record of years of unpaid domestic work. The discovery ignites a town-wide strike as women count their own invisible labour and rally for recognition, with Linda pushed to the front of the campaign. As the protest strains families and fractures loyalties, unsettling childhood memories force her to question who she really is—until a glimmer of possibility offers a way to pull the community back together.
