Together, BritBox and Acorn TV bring us the bulk of the new British TV shows streaming each month – but there are another 5-10 services that semi-consistently offer British content, and it can be hard to keep track of the shows coming out across all the different services. To help you keep track, we put together a list each month to look at those shows which:
- Premiered in the UK or Ireland within the last year or two
- Are streaming for the first time (in the US) in October 2024
Below, we offer photos, premiere dates, and descriptions to help you sort out your viewing plans for the next month.

Based on the 1957 novel of the same name by John Wyndham, this is the latest of several adaptations. Murder in the Village: Who Killed the Doctor's Wife? (2024)
This two-part docuseries revisits one of Britain’s most puzzling cold cases. In 1983, Diane Jones, wife of beloved local GP Dr. Robert Jones, disappeared from their idyllic Essex home. Her body was later found with signs of foul play, but no suspect was ever identified. Forty years later, the series explores new evidence, pairing it with testimony from detectives, friends, and neighbors. Revealing unexpected details about Diane’s secret life, it suggests the truth is far more complex than it initially seemed.
Premieres October 28th on BritBox.
Inside No. 9, Season 9
This darkly hilarious anthology series returns for its ninth and final set of episodes (though I seem to recall at least one interview or social media comment where they said “final for a good while” rather than “for certain and forever”). From the elegance of an Edwardian country house to the grim reality of the last train home, from nosy neighbors to grave robbers, from illicit visits to the toilet to a ticking clock in a sinister escape room, this ninth collection is sure to send the series off with a bang. A deadly mixture of classical music, dubious morals and murders at midnight, Shearsmith and Pemberton present six more films to delight and disturb their many fans around the world as they open the door marked No.9 for the final time.
Guest cast members for the new season include Dorothy Atkinson (Pennyworth), Mark Bonnar (Guilt), Charlie Cooper (This Country), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Joel Fry (Plebs), Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street), Matthew Kelly (Cold Blood), Eddie Marsan (Vera Drake), Vinette Robinson (The A Word), Adrian Scarborough (The Chelsea Detective), Philippa Dunne (Derry Girls), Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley), Hayley Squires (Adult Material) and Susan Wokoma (Cheaters).

A Few More Suggestions…
October's lineup is more robust than any we've seen since springtime, so for most people, there will be plenty to watch. If these shows aren't doing it for you, though, you can check out some of the other months in recent history…
