Will there be a season 4 of Victoria?

It's been more than a year since Victoria Season 3 aired. Controversially, Season 3 aired first on PBS, then on ITV.

Fans are in love with the story of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and the political intrigues of Victorian England. There is a certainty that there will be a Season 4. It just may take some time.

Fans of the show may not realize that they are actually taking a longish break. The delays were already set way before we ever heard of Covid-19. Part of the reason for the delay is that they are regrouping and figuring out details. What sorts of details? One of those pesky details is whether there should be a time jump. And if there is a time jump, should there be an acting change, à la The Crown?

Yet two years later, when on The Graham Norton Show, Jenna Coleman had her doubts. Coleman, who portrays Victoria, has already expressed her doubts about being able to play the Grandmother of Europe:

I've currently got seven children in the show, so there's definitely a point where it becomes not realistic anymore. I've just caught up with her age and my age.

Back in 2017, creator Daisy Goodwin believed that they were going too slow to worry about a cast change. Yet, more recently. Goodwin admitted that Jenna played 10 years younger, and could easily play 10 years older. But, when we get to 20 years older, they may need to make other plans.

Where will Victoria Season 4 storyline start? As Coleman indicated to Graham Norton, there are several options. Will it be the Crimean War (October 5, 1853 – March 30, 1856) or will it be later? History buffs may already have those tissues ready for “later.”

What Is Victoria About?

Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria

Victoria is a historical drama about Queen Victoria, with a few embellishments. Daisy Goodwin has crafted a very entertaining series about the young woman who became Queen at the age of 18. She researched Queen Victoria's diaries for fodder.

There are many trying to sway the young Victoria with their own political ambitions. She has a lot of mother issues, and finds that Lord Melbourne's council to her liking.

When she meets Prince Albert, her eyes are opened to some of the unpleasant truths going on with the people in her kingdom. Together, they find their own way start to change the world.

When & Where Will Victoria Season 4 Premiere?

A scene from Victoria, Season 3

There is a tremendous amount of uncertainty about the when of Victoria Season 4. As of now, they have yet to announce any sort of production schedule. There has been ample time for Daisy Goodwin to determine if there is a time jump and what she plans on covering in the new season. The delay in filming could be a natural way to jump over some of the storyline.

We are headed towards the Crimean War and she may decide that they could spend an episode reflecting, instead of an entire season dramatizing. What historically happens not long after the end of that war is something that shall alter Queen Victoria's life forever. This is a natural way to dramatically end a season.

Then, we can add the complications of the worldwide pandemic. How does this affect the cast's work availability? There is a tremendous amount of uncertainty surrounding all film production right now. Filming a season of Victoria takes about six months. They will certainly not commence any sort of production until they know it is safe for cast and crew to go the distance and complete a season of filming.

We'll update this post when we know more.
