Hulu has a ton of great shows – but if you're a British TV fan, you might be wondering whether they have enough British (and semi-British) shows to keep you busy. In this post, we take a look at current shows on Hulu which are:
- British
- British co-productions with another country's involvement
- Non-British, but with one or more British leads
- A handful of European/Commonwealth shows that are likely to interest British tV fans
Now, Hulu doesn't provide this breakdown on their own, so it's possible we've missed a couple – but it should be plenty to get you started. This list is accurate as of late November 2024, but remember that offerings are constantly changing.

Bad Banks – Germany – 2018 to 2020 – This financial thriller follows a young mother who thinks her banking career is going well until she realises she’s caught up in a much larger scheme.
Banished – 2015 – British convicts are sent to Australia to pay for their crimes, and both they and the soldiers have a great deal of adapting to do.
Being Erica – Canada – 2009 to 2011 – A young woman participates in a strange form of therapy that involves time travel.
Better – 2023 – A morally conflicted detective, entangled in a web of corruption and loyalty to a ruthless crime boss, begins a dangerous quest for redemption that tests her resolve and risks everything she holds dear.
The Bisexual – 2018 – This dramedy follows a London-based American woman who breaks up with her girlfriend and decides to give heterosexual relations a try. American Desiree Akhavan (Flowers) plays Leila alongside Irish actor Brian Gleeson (Peaky Blinders) and English actress Maxine Peake (Silk).
Bleak House (2005) – A tangled inheritance dispute leads to secrets, betrayals, and life-altering consequences in this masterful adaptation of the classic Dickensian legal drama.
Butterfly – 2018 – When a young boy named Max decides he would prefer to live as a girl named Maxine, his parents have to decide how to handle it.
Cardinal – Canada – 2017 to 2020 – Based on the crime novels of author Giles Blunt, this series follows two detectives who work out of the fictional city of Algonquin Bay. The lead, John Cardinal, is a troubled officer who was removed from his squad when it was believed he was too obsessed with the case of a missing girl.
Chance – United States – 2016 to 2018 – English actor and comedian Hugh Laurie stars in this drama about a doctor who attempts to help a patient escape an abusive husband. Enlisting the aid of a mysterious and violent antique furniture restorer, he discovers just how far he's willing to go to protect a life.
Chewing Gum – 2015 to 2017 – As a young black woman transitions to adulthood, she struggles with her impoverished background, her strict religious beliefs, and her love of pop singer Beyonce. Michaela Coel stars.
A Christmas Carol – 2019 – The classic Dickens tale gets a dark fantasy remake in this gritty adaptation by Steven Knight. Guy Pearce (Memento) stars as Ebenezer Scrooge.
City Homicide – Australia – 2007 to 2011 – In Melbourne, Australia, a group of homicide detectives work to find justice for victims of murder.
Coronation Street – 1960 to present – Running since 1960, and there are more than 9400 episodes of this daytime drama classic. The show is set in the fictional area of Wetherfield, where residents walk cobbled streets among terraced houses and the ever-present Rovers Return pub.
Culprits – 2023 – After pulling off a high-stakes heist, a group of criminals tries to start fresh, only to be targeted by a vengeful assassin seeking retribution.
Daniel Deronda (2002) – In Victorian England, a young man finds himself torn between two women, each representing opposing paths in life. As he struggles with questions of love, identity, and duty, he uncovers hidden truths about his own heritage and future.
David Copperfield (1999) – A boy's journey from hardship to hope is chronicled in this faithful adaptation of a beloved literary classic. From his troubled childhood to his eventual self-discovery, this story captures the trials and triumphs of a young orphan navigating the challenges of life, love, and ambition in 19th-century England. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) stars.
Demons – 2009 – Philip Glenister (Life on Mars), Zoë Tapper (Grace), and Holliday Grainger (CB Strike) are among the stars of this series about a young man who turns out to be the great-grandson of Abraham Van Helsing. Guided by a group of seasoned allies, he battles dark forces while uncovering secrets about his family's extraordinary legacy. Fans of Mackenzie Crook (Detectorists) will enjoy his performance as the demon Gladiolus Thrip.
The Fades – 2011 – A teenager begins experiencing inexplicable dreams and eerie visions, leading him to see spirits others cannot. As he unravels the mystery of these haunting encounters, he learns about a looming battle between good and evil, where his role could be the key to saving humanity.
The Famous Five – 2023 – This adaptation reimagines Enid Blyton's classic tales, following siblings Julian, Dick, Anne, their cousin George, and her dog Timmy as they embark on thrilling adventures and unravel mysteries across 1940s Britain.
Faraway Downs – 2023 – This series follows Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman), an English aristocrat who crosses the globe to confront her wandering husband and sell a massive cattle ranch, Faraway Downs, which they own in the Australian Outback. After her husband dies, a cattle baron (Bryan Brown, Darby & Joan) plots to take over the land and she joins forces with a rough local (Hugh Jackman) to protect the ranch.
The Great – United States – 2020 – Though this dramedy is an American production, much of the cast is British. It’s loosely based on the rise of Catherine the Great.
Great Expectations (2023) – 2023 – Dickens’ classic tale of a young orphan’s coming-of-age gets a gritty, unconventional remake by Steven Knight. Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) plays Pip, while Olivia Colman takes on the role of Miss Havisham.
Hard Sun – 2018 – In a world teetering on the brink of apocalypse, two detectives must balance their duties with the knowledge that time may be running out. As they investigate crimes and face mounting personal struggles, they uncover a conspiracy that ties their cases to the looming end of civilization.
Harlots – 2007 to 2019 – In 18th century London, a brothel owner struggles to raise her daughters. The series was inspired by historian Hallie Rubenhold’s book, The Covent Garden Ladies.
Harrow – Australia – 2018 to present – Welshman Ioan Gruffudd stars as Dr. Daniel Harrow, a forensic pathologist with authority issues. Still, his empathy for the dead makes him brilliant at what he does.
Helstrom – United States – 2020 – English actor Tom Austen (Grantchester) stars in this Marvel-universe series about Daimon and Satana Hellstrom, children of a powerful serial killer who hunt down the worst elements in society.
Hollyoaks – 1995 to present – This young adult soap opera is set in the fictional village of Hollyoaks, a suburb of Chester. As a youth-oriented programme, it frequently covers topics considered taboo.
In the Flesh – 2013 – After the government gets a handle on the recent zombie epidemic, they begin to rehabilitate zombies for re-entry into society. They aren't always warmly received.
Intruders – 2014 – John Simm (Life on Mars) stars as an ex-cop whose wife goes missing. The ensuing investigation leads him to Seattle, and a secret society dedicated to chasing immortality by hiding in the bodies of others. Based on Michael Marshall Smith's novel.
Jane Eyre (2006) – This two-part adaptation of the classic Charlotte Bronte novel tells the story of a young woman who falls in love with the dark and brooding Mr. Rochester. Ruth Wilson (Luther) stars.
The Killing Kind – 2023 – Based on Jane Casey's novel, this thriller stars Emma Appleton as barrister Ingrid Lewis, whose life is upended when her former client (Colin Morgan), once accused of coercive control, reappears claiming to be her only hope against a deadly threat. Premiered May 14th.
Line of Duty – 2012 to present – Set within a fictional anti-corruption police unit, this tense drama follows officers as they investigate their own colleagues for misconduct and criminal behavior. Featuring performances by Lennie James, Vicky McClure, Martin Compston, and Adrian Dunbar, the series explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the complex morality of law enforcement.
Murdoch Mysteries – Canada – 2008 to present – In 1890s Toronto, a forward-thinking detective uses early forensic techniques to solve crimes. With Yannick Bisson as Detective William Murdoch, Helene Joy as Dr. Julia Ogden, and Thomas Craig and Jonny Harris as Inspector Brackenreid and Constable Crabtree, this period drama blends innovation, mystery, and humour.
The Musketeers – 2014 to 2016 – A fresh take on the legendary tale of swashbuckling heroes, this adaptation brings to life daring adventures, political intrigue, and timeless camaraderie. The cast includes Peter Capaldi, Tom Burke, and Rupert Everett, delivering a modernized yet faithful homage to the original classic.
My Mad Fat Diary – 2013 to 2015 – Set in 1990s Lincolnshire, this series follows a young woman as she battles depression, body image struggles, and the challenges of adolescence. With a raw and heartfelt approach, it delves into mental health and the search for self-acceptance.
New Tricks – 2003 to 2015 – This long-running series focuses on a group of police who come out of retirement to work unsolved cases.
Normal People – Ireland – 2020 – This series follows a couple navigating their relationship after secondary school. Though they’re from the same small Irish town, their different social classes cause friction.
Obituary – Ireland – 2023 – This dark dramedy follows Elvira Clancy (Siobhán Cullen, The Long Call), a young woman who loves her job as an obituary writer until the newspaper falls on hard times and they start paying her per-obituary. One day, she “accidentally” kills an unpleasant local, only to find she’s awakened an unknown bloodlust within. She continues to kill, and it's all quite lovely until the newspaper hires an attractive new crime correspondent…
Oliver Twist (2007) – In this adaptation of the Dickens classic, we see appearances from Morven Christie, Tom Hardy, and Sarah Lancashire, among others. The story focuses on the difficult life of a young orphan after he's sold into an apprenticeship with an undertaker.
Prey – 2014 to 2015 – Manchester detective Marcus Farrow (played by John Simm) is on the run, accused of a crime and desperate to prove his innocence. All the while, his former friends and colleagues do their best to hunt him down. This series reunites Philip Glenister and John Simm, who also appeared together in Life on Mars.
Pride & Prejudice (1995) – Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle star in this adaptation of the classic tale of Elizabeth Bennet and the snobbish but enticing Mr. Darcy.
Primeval – 2008 to 2011 – When strange things start happening around England, a professor and his team are forced to capture a variety of unusual creatures from other time periods. Includes Ben Miller (of Death in Paradise).
Queenie – 2024 – Dionne Brown (Criminal Record) stars as Queenie Jenkins, a twentysomething Jamaican British woman living in south London and struggling to adapt to an adult life that straddles two cultures. Premiered June 7th.
Rivals – 2024 – Based on Jilly Cooper’s beloved Rutshire novels, this 1980s period drams follows the intense rivalry between a charismatic Tory MP and a cunning TV executive in the high-stakes world of British independent television. Premiered October 18th.
Rules of the Game – 2022 – When Maya begins her new job as director of human resources at Fly, she finds herself up against an unwelcoming lad culture. A death in the workplace will lead her to start digging into old cases of abuse and misconduct.
Say Nothing – 2024 – Based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s bestseller Say Nothing, this historical true-crime drama looks back at Northern Ireland's Troubles, beginning with the 1972 abduction of Jean McConville, a mother of ten who vanished without a trace. Premiered November 14th.
The Secret of Crickley Hall – 2012 – A grieving family moves into a remote, historic estate hoping for a fresh start after tragedy. Instead, they encounter dark secrets and a chilling connection to their loss. Suranne Jones and Tom Ellis star in this atmospheric supernatural tale.
Sense & Sensibility (2008) – After her husband’s death leaves her family in financial ruin, a widow relocates with her daughters and navigates love, loss, and social expectations. This adaptation highlights resilience and romance in a society ruled by class and marriage prospects.
Shardlake – 2024 – In Tudor England, a lawyer serving Thomas Cromwell investigates a monastery murder, unraveling a dangerous web of political and religious conspiracies. This historical mystery brings suspense and intrigue to the era of Reformation England.
Sherlock – 2010 to 2017 – A brilliant detective solves crimes in modern-day London with the help of his loyal friend and sharp intellect. This contemporary take on a classic literary icon stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the enigmatic sleuth.
Silk – 2011 to 2014 – This series focuses on the challenges modern-day barristers face in their careers.
Silverpoint – 2022 to present – In 1997, four kids vanished in Silverpoint woods. This young adult sci-fi series begins 23 years later when a boy decides to figure out what really happened.
The Sister – 2020 – Luther creator and screenwriter Neil Cross brings us this four-part story “of murder – and perhaps ghosts – which exposes the quiet terror of a man trying to escape his past.” It’s inspired by Cross’s novel Burial, released in 2009. Russell Tovey (Years and Years) plays Nathan, a man trying to hide a terrible secret. His world is rocked when Bob (Bertie Carvel, Doctor Foster) spears on his doorstep with shocking news. Amrita Acharia (The Good Karma Hospital) also appears.
Skins – 2007 to 2013 – This racy classic offers a look into modern teenage life in England.
Somewhere Boy – 2022 – After his mother’s fatal accident, Danny has been kept away from the rest of the world by his overprotective father. When he realises the monsters his father warned of don’t actually exist, he questions everything about his life.
The Split – 2018 to 2020 – After a 30-year absence, a family of female lawyers has enough trouble dealing with their personal lives…and then their long-absent father returns.
Top of the Lake – 2013 to 2017 – This UK/New Zealand co-production follows the investigation into the disappearance of a drug lord’s pregnant 12-year-old daughter. In the second series, the story moves to Sydney as the same detective investigates a body found at Bondi Beach.
Treadstone – United States – 2019 – Though American, several actors in this series are British, and parts of the action are set in London. Adapted from Robert Ludlum’s Bourne world, the series explores the story of a fictional CIA black-ops programme that turns recruits into almost superhuman assassins.
Upstairs Downstairs – 2010 to 2012 – This series picks up the Upstairs Downstairs saga shortly after the period covered by the original series. Covering 1936 to 1939, it tells the story of the new owners of 165 Eaton Place, ending with the outbreak of World War II. Ed Stoppard (Home Fires) and Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) play new owners Sir Hallam Holland and Lady Agnes Holland.
Whitechapel – 2009 to 2013 – An inspector, a detective sergeant, and a historical homicide expert look at crimes that may have connections to the Whitechapel district.
Witness No. 3 – 2022 – Jodie is a single mum who runs a hair salon, but when she looks out the window one day and witnesses a murder, her life changes. Though she does what she believes is her civic duty, her identity is soon leaked and she becomes the subject of an intense intimidation campaign.
British Comedies on Hulu
Absolutely Fabulous – 1992 to 2012 – In this groundbreaking classic, two wild women do everything but act their age. The series was based on a sketch comedy called “Modern Mother and Daughter” by Dawn French (Vicar of Dibley) and Jennifer Saunders (Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous). Joanna Lumley stars alongside Saunders as Patsy Stone, and Julia Sawalha plays Edina’s daughter Saffron.
The Aliens – 2016 – After aliens crash-land in the Irish Sea, they're allowed onto British soil but forced to live in a ghetto called Troy. Border guard Lewis helps to maintain the separation, but it becomes a tough position to hold when he learns he’s half-alien.
Am I Being Unreasonable – This comedy thriller follows Nic (Daisy May Cooper, This Country), a woman unfulfilled in her marriage and mourning a loss she can't share. Her son Ollie is her only reason for continuing – until Jen (Selin Hizli, Grantchester) comes to town. Through friendship and laughter, Nic's dark secrets begin to emerge.
Blackadder – 1983 to 1989 – Rowan Atkinson stars as antihero Edmund Blackadder, accompanied by Sir Tony Robinson as his sidekick Baldrick. Each series of this quirky comedy is set in a different period within British history, and Edmund carries different titles throughout. The “essence” of each character remains largely the same in each series, though.
Bloods – 2021 to 2022 – When a standoffish young black man is paired to drive an ambulance with an excessively friendly, middle-aged white woman, it seems like a terrible match. Through a combination of time and hilariously implausible situations, they learn how to support each other.
Brassic – 2019 to present – This working-class comedy follows a young man named Vinnie (Joe Gilgun) and his occasionally criminal friends as they go about their lives in the northern English town of Hawley. It’s a lively, rough-around-the-edges comedy about desperate small-town life and the ever-present question of whether there might be something better elsewhere. Brassic gets its name from Cockney rhyming slang. It’s a shortening of “boracic lint”, slang for “skint”.
Breeders – 2020 – Martin Freeman (Sherlock) and Daisy Haggard (Black Mirror) star in this sitcom about modern parenting and the inevitable discovery that you’re not quite the person you thought you were before you had kids. Freeman was quoted saying it explores “some of the less-discussed truths and challenges of being a parent.”
Dinosaur – 2024 – An autistic woman in her 30s faces upheaval and self-discovery when her sister and best friend announces a sudden engagement, disrupting their close-knit life.
Extraordinary – 2023 – In the world of this comedy, everyone over the age of 18 develops a superpower – except one young woman, 25-year-old Jen. The series follows her journey to accept her differences. Season 2 premiered March 6th.
The Full Monty – 2023 – Decades after their days as amateur strippers, a group of close friends in Yorkshire faces a personal tragedy. As they come together to honor a lost friend, they revisit old memories, confront present struggles, and lean on each other for support. This continuation of the beloved film blends humor and heartfelt moments as the characters reflect on how far they’ve come.
Horrible Histories – 2009 to present – This sketch comedy brings history to life with its irreverent takes on key events and figures. With songs, skits, and exaggerated characters, the show makes history accessible and entertaining for kids and adults alike.
Hunderby – 2012 to 2015 – After surviving a shipwreck, a woman finds herself in a strange coastal village, navigating odd traditions and twisted relationships. This darkly comedic period series balances mystery and satire with Julia Davis in the lead.
Ladhood – 2019 to present – This coming-of-age sitcom takes a look at mischief and modern masculinity.
Maxxx – 2020 – A former boy band star struggles to revive his career while juggling his inflated ego, his meddling ex-girlfriend, and the demands of fame. Along the way, he makes a series of bad decisions and chaotic attempts to return to the spotlight. This comedy dives into the absurdity of pop stardom and second chances.
The Mighty Boosh – 2003 to 2007 – Two struggling musicians work at a run-down zoo for their eccentric boss, leading to surreal adventures both on and off the job. As they deal with absurd challenges, including bizarre animals and even stranger people, their creative ambitions are constantly derailed.
Misfits – 2009 to 2013 – A group of young offenders develops superpowers when they're struck by lightning.
Mr. Bean – 1992 to 1995 – Bumbling Mr. Bean rarely speaks and has some very peculiar ways of doing things, but it usually works out for him. Rowan Atkinson (Maigret) stars as the iconic British character.
The Office – 2001 to 2003 – Before there was Michael Scott in the US, there was David Brent in Slough, England. Written by Ricky Gervais (After Life) and Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies), this mockumentary-style programme takes place in the office of the fictional Wernham Hogg paper company. Mackenzie Crook (Detectorists) and Martin Freeman (Sherlock) are also among the stars.
Offspring – Australia – 2010 to 2017 – Set in Melbourne, this series follows thirty-something obstetrician Nina and her circle of friends and family.
Packed to the Rafters – Australia – 2008 to 2013 – This family dramedy follows the Rafter family as they cope with the challenges of modern work, love, and family life.
This Way Up – 2019 – Aisling Bea (Trollied, Finding Joy) stars as Aine, a single Irish Catholic woman who has a nervous breakdown while living in London and teaching English as a second language. Sharon Horgan (Catastophe) co-produces and co-stars as Shona, her older sister.
Wedding Season – 2022 – This dark comedy follows Katie, a woman who finds herself surrounded by the dead bodies of her new husband and his family on her wedding day. No one’s sure who did it, but everyone has a different theory.
What We Do in the Shadows – United States – 2019 to present – Matt Berry (The IT Crowd) stars in this comedy about a group of centuries-old vampires who’ve been living in New York City for the last couple hundred years.
Wreck – 2022 to present – After the disappearance of his sister, Jamie Walsh takes a job on a cruise ship in an attempt to find out what happened to her. In doing so, he uncovers something far worse than he ever could have imagined. The series is described as a comedy-horror with LGBTQ+ themes. Season 2 premiered June 11th.
The Wrong Mans – 2013 to 2014 – After a council worker answers a ringing phone at the site of a crash, he and an acquaintance in the same building become entangled in a web of crime and corruption. James Corden (Gavin & Stacey) and Mathew Baynton (Horrible Histories) star.
Zomboat! – 2019 – This apocalypse comedy sees zombies unleashed in Birmingham, England. Two sisters join up with a couple of guys and flee by narrowboat. For those not familiar with narrowboats and British canals, it’s worth noting that canal speed limits are generally 3-4 mph, and the boats themselves can’t go much faster unless there’s a strong current pushing them along.

Britain’s Best Home Cook – 2018 to present – This cooking competition series pits amateur chefs against one another to find out who’s best.
Camden – 2024 – London’s iconic Camden neighborhood comes alive through untold stories of legendary musicians, their first gigs, wild nights, and rich history.
Celebrity Best Home Cook – 2021 – Ten home cooks create and serve their best dishes to celebrities like Dame Mary Berry and Claudia Winkleman.
Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story – 2023 – This three-part docuseries takes a look at how the wife of one of England's most famous footballers became an amateur online sleuth to figure out why private stories about her and her family continued to appear in the media. She would go on to make accusations that another woman was viewing her private Instagram account and leaking stories, and the court cases dragged on for years.
Dress to Impress – 2017 to present – This British dating show sees competitors choosing attire for a fashion-conscious singleton, with the winner getting the date.
Endurance – 2024 – More than 100 years after polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton kept 27 crew members alive despite losing their ship to pack ice, this documentary follows modern explorers on a mission to locate the sunken vessel. Premiered November 2nd.
Evil Up Close – 2013 – This true crime series takes a look at some of the UK’s worst and most notorious criminals.
The Farmer Wants a Wife – Australia – 2007 to present – Land-owning Australian farmers bring women back home before deciding who to keep.
Fiennes: Return to the Wild – 2024 – In this two-part docuseries, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and cousin Joseph Fiennes revisit British Columbia, retracing his 1971 expedition, reflecting on his legendary exploits, and strengthening family bonds. Premiered May 29th.
Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted – 2019 to present – Scottish celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay travels to some of the world’s most exotic locations in search of culinary inspiration. Season 4 premiered May 28th.
Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted Showdown – 2022 – The celebrity chef heads home to the UK to face off against two former proteges, then travels to Costa Rica for a head-to-head competition with his daughter.
Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell & Back – 2018 to present – In this series, Gordon Ramsay attempts to help failing restaurants in just 24 hours.
Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars – 2023 to present – Aspiring food entrepreneurs attempt challenges related to the different aspects of running a business, with the winner receiveing a $250,000 investment in their business.
Gordon Ramsay’s Road Trip – 2021 to present – Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay embarks on food-filled trips with friends and colleagues.
Gordon Ramsay's The F Word – 2005 to 2010 – Each episode of this cooking series features Gordon Ramsay preparing a meal for 50 guests at The F Word restaurant. In between, there are segments about cooking, farming, and various challenges with guests.
Gordon Ramsey's Ultimate Home Cooking – 2013 – This series helps people learn to cook simple, healthy, practical meals in their own home kitchens.
Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change the World – 2021 – Swedish activist Greta Thunberg travels around the world, meeting with climate scientists on the front lines of what’s happening to our planet.
Hell's Kitchen – United States – 2004 to 2009 – This series pits prospective chefs against one another to win accolades and the approval of Scottish celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Hotel Hell – United States – 2012 to 2016 – Scottish celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay goes on a quest to fix some of the worst hotels and inns in America.
I Kissed a Boy – 2023 to present – In the UK’s first gay dating show, pop singer Dannii Minogue plays cupid for single men.
I Kissed a Girl – 2024 to present – This lesbian dating series sees pop singer Dannii Minogue helping single young women find love.
