Like a lot of warmer months, August looks like it's going to be a fairly light month over at Acorn TV – but that doesn't mean there won't be anything to look forward to. The new season of Signora Volpe continues, and we'll see a whole new season of the New Zealand-based dramedy Under the Vines. Keep reading for the full schedule + descriptions.

Shows Continuing on Acorn TV in August 2024
Signora Volpe, Season 2
Former British spy Sylvia Fox (Emilia Fox, Silent Witness) has discovered a new way of life in Italy, but murder is never far off. As she renovates her lovely countryside home, works on relations with her family, and gets to know the handsome Capitano Riva (Giovanni Cirfiera, The Assassination of Gianni Versace), she uses her well-honed spy skills to get to the bottom of all sorts of nasty business.
Episodes will air weekly, with two more feature-length episodes in August (for a total of 3 in season 2). They are:
- August 5th, Episode 2 – Freelancing for MI6, Sylvia poses as the PA for a diplomat's widow at her luxurious lakeside villa. She's monitoring a South American politician, but when a body is found in the lake, Riva is astonished to discover Sylvia already there.
- August 12th, Episode 3 (FINALE) – When Sylvia is abducted by an enemy from her past, she'll have to rely on her formidable reserves of physical and mental resilience to get out alive. While Riva investigates through official channels, Henry and Isabel run their own covert operation – all working against time to save her.

New Shows on Acorn TV in August 2024
August 5th Premieres
Indian Doctor (2010 to 2013)
Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten) stars as Dr. Prem Sharma, an Indian doctor who relocates from Delhi to a small Welsh mining village during the 1960s. Along with his wife, Kamini (Ayesha Dharker, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), he navigates the cultural adjustments and challenges of practicing medicine in a close-knit, largely white and Welsh community. His compassionate and forward-thinking approach quickly endears him to some of the villagers, but he clashes with others like the gruff local miner Owen Griffiths (Ifan Huw Dafydd, EastEnders). The series is based on a true story, and Bhaskar prepared for the role by speaking with Dr. Prem Subberwal, a man who did exactly what is portrayed in the show.
Three season binge premiere. Can't wait? At time of writing, season 1 is free with Prime, while seasons 2 and 3 are available to purchase.

The Restaurant (Sweden, 2017 to 2020)
This Swedish period drama begins just as World War II is ending, and it follows the Löwander family as they run one of Stockholm's most popular restaurants. In the midst of the post-war celebrations, two strangers kiss, not knowing their actions will have far-reaching consequences. Nina Löwander is one of those strangers, and the other is working class kitchen boy Calle.
The series follows the ups and downs of all those involved in the restaurant, and after coming to Acorn TV in July, seasons continue in August as follows
- Season 4 (FINAL) – August 12th
Can't wait? You can also find this one HERE on AMC+ and Sundance Now.
Run (2013)
This tense drama stars Olivia Colman (The Crown) as one of four interconnected characters whose lives intersect in unexpected ways in the tough, urban landscape of London. Each episode focuses on a different character, revealing their struggles and the choices they make to survive.
Olivia Colman plays Carol, a grieving mother grappling with the sudden and violent death of her teenage son. Katie Leung (Harry Potter) portrays Ying, an illegal immigrant trying to make a life for herself while evading deportation. Lennie James (The Walking Dead) stars as Richard, a recovering heroin addict attempting to reconnect with his estranged family. Finally, Jaime Winstone (Made in Dagenham) plays Tara, a young woman caught in an abusive relationship, striving to find a way out.
Can't wait? It's also HERE on MHz Choice (ever since they absorbed all of Topic's programming).
August 19th PremierES
Under the Vines, Season 3
This New Zealand-based series began when two step-cousins jointly inherited a struggling vineyard. Daisy was an Australian socialite, while Louis was working as a lawyer in the UK. Despite a complete lack of winemaking experience and virtually no shared opinions, they decided to work together in hopes of getting more than just lowball offers on the property.
In season 3, we return to Oakley Wines and find Daisy (Rebecca Gibney, The Dressmaker) and Louis (Charles Edwards, The Crown) trying to legally oust the annoying William (Mark Mitchinson, Evil Dead Rise) who claims he owns half the vineyard.
Episodes will premiere as follows:
- August 19th
- Episode 1, “The Wellerman” – We return to Oakley Wines with Daisy and Louis trying to legally dismiss William's claims that he owns half the vineyard.
- Episode 2, “Know When to Hold ‘Em” – In an effort to get William out of the house, Daisy challenges him to a winner-takes-all game of ‘Texas Hold ‘em – but can she and the Oakley team beat a former poker pro?
- August 26th
- Episode 3, “Best Laid Plans” – Daisy and Louis try to steel Williams’ thunder at the opening of their new cellar door but are distracted by the impending arrival of Nic and Vic’s twin babies.
Additional episodes will follow in September. New to the series? You can catch up HERE.
Far North (2023)
This New Zealand crime comedy tells the (mostly) true story of how a hilariously inept band of drug traffickers managed to bring half a billion dollars' worth of meth into the country. Despite their clear inadequacies, they nearly got the drugs to market – until a clever but otherwise ordinary couple stopped them. In the end, they were thwarted not by police or government officials, but by a 70-year-old Māori diesel mechanic (Temuera Morrison, The Mandalorian) and his aqua-aerobics instructing wife (Robyn Malcom, Black Bird)! Binge premiere.
August 26th Premieres
The Sommerdahl Murders, Season 5 (Danish with English subtitles)
Police investigator Dan Sommerdahl has devoted his life to protecting his beloved town, but that devotion has cost him his marriage. He can deal with that, but seeing his ex-wife in a relationship with his police partner and best friend might be a step too far…
