What’s New on Acorn TV for November 2019?

We're coming to the end of October, and with cooling weather, I think it's safe to say we all need a little more British TV. Luckily, Acorn's November lineup delivers. We've got a bit more Doc Martin to come, the Good Karma Hospital premiere, and a number of other new shows to look forward to.
If you don't already subscribe to Acorn TV, you can sign up on their website HERE. If you have a smart TV that isn't compatible with their app (like a Samsung) or you prefer to subscribe through Amazon Video, you can sign up HERE instead. Either way you do it, you get a free 7-day trial, and both offer easy online cancellation if you decide it's not for you. Both options have the same programming, though some people have reported slightly smoother streaming on Amazon (and occasionally, a delay of a few hours for new programming to appear).

November 7, 14
Doc Martin, Season 9 (Exclusive US & Canada Premiere)
While Doc Martin technically premiered in late September (the 26th, to be precise), new episodes are coming every Thursday through November 14. Each episode comes out one day after its original airing in the UK.

November 4
Mount Pleasant, Series 1 & 2
This dramedy dives into the lives of a tightly knit Manchester family, focusing on their everyday struggles and hurdles. The show ran for 6 seasons and starred Pauline Collins (Upstairs Downstairs), Sally Lindsay (Coronation Street, Scott & Bailey), and Daniel Ryan (Black Sea).
Slings & Arrows, Series 1
This Canadian dark comedy is set at a fictitious Shakespeare festival in Canada as they embark on a production of Hamlet. It originally aired between 2003 and 2006, winning numerous awards for acting, writing, direction, and more.
Paul Gross (Due South) stars as washed-up actor Geoffrey Tennant, along with Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers, The Notebook), Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel), Stephen Ouimette (Mentors), and Mark McKinney (Kids in the Hall, Superstore), who is also the co-creator/co-writer.

November 11
The Good Karma Hospital, Season 3
The Good Karma Hospital returns for a third season, facing their most shocking case yet when one of their own is attacked. Dr. Ruby Walker (Amrita Acharia, Game of Thrones), grapples with the challenge of figuring out where she belongs – with her biological family, or her friends at the hospital. It’s complicated further by her deepening relationship with Dr. Gabriel Varma (James Floyd, My Brother the Devil).
Series 3 also introduces us to a visiting Brit, Ted Dalrymple, an older man on a mission to find a love from his past. The series goes to darker places than ever before, but it is through the bonds of family and friendship – rekindled and strengthened over the series – that the team weather their biggest challenges yet. The series’ cast also includes Amanda Redman (New Tricks) and Neil Morrissey (Striking Out, The Night Manager).
White Teeth
Based on Zadie Smith's popular novel, this series tells the story of three families in Willesden, a neighbourhood in northwest London. The series takes places over three decades in the increasingly diverse modern Britain. Includes Om Puri (The Hundred-Foot Journey, East is East), Phil Davis (Vera Drake, Bleak House), Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Moonlight) and Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife).
November 18

Relative Strangers
On November 18th, Acorn TV brings us another Irish drama, this time about an Irish nurse whose happy life comes to an end when her husband dies and she learns she was living a lie. Upon his death, she finds he was deeply in debt and living a double life in Dublin. After confronting the other family, she learns the other wife's child has leukaemia and needs help from her own children to survive.
Includes performances by Academy Award-winning actress Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot, A Time to Kill) and British TV fan favourite Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty, Blood). You can view the trailer below.
November 25
Balthazar, Series 1
One of the highest-rated French dramas in 2018, this French crime thriller gives us a forensic pathologist with an unusual ability to make the dead speak like nobody else. Tomer Sisley (Messiah, Philharmonia, The Heir Apparent: Largo Winch) plays the brilliant and exasperating Raphaël Balthazar, and Hélène de Fougerolles plays police commander Hélène Bach, the woman who must collaborate with him.

November 28
Anner House (movie)
Based on one of Maeve Binchy's short stories, this film is a romantic drama about two Irish emigrants who begin new lives in Cape Town while struggling to deal with their pasts.
An Accidental Soldier (movie)
In this acclaimed WW1 drama, a 35-year-old Australian soldier flees the Western Front and finds love and refuge with a French woman in a remote farmhouse. The film is based on the novel Silent Parts by John Charalambous, and it tells the story of two people who find passion at an age when they thought love has passed them by (though privately, I have to admit I'm laughing at the thought of 35 being an age where love has passed someone by).
December 1
Okay, so it's not technically a November release – but it's so close we figured we ought to mention it in case you miss the December premiere post when it comes out.
