It's nearly December, and that means we're looking at Acorn TV's final premiere schedule for the year – and of course, their Christmas special offerings (including one for The Chelsea Detective).

The Graham Norton Show 

The Graham Norton Show, Season 32

This popular talk show returns for another season of chats with celebrities. New episodes air as follows:

  • December 6th, Episode 9 – Guest lineup includes: Cher, Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley, Josh Brolin, and Jalen Ngonda
  • December 13th, Episode 10 – Guest lineup includes: Nicholas Hoult, Jamie Oliver, Lolly Adefope, and Coldplay
  • December 20th, Episode 11 – Guest lineup TBA
  • December 27th, Episode 12 – Guest lineup TBA

Maternal premiered November 18th

Maternal (2023)

Heading back to work after her maternity leave, Maryam (Parminder Nagra, DI Ray), Catherine (Lara Pulver, The Split) and Helen (Lisa McGrillis, George Gently) face the challenge of raising their families while also working demanding careers as doctors in a struggling NHS. Episodes will air as follows:

  • December 2nd
    • Episode 5 – Motherhood throws everything at Catherine as she fights Jack for the Consultant job. A premature labor leads Maryam to finally admit how she is feeling, and Helen makes a shocking discovery. 
    • Episode 6 (FINALE) – Maryam and Catherine speak up at the investigation meeting, while Helen tries her best to deal with the aftermath of Guy’s actions. And all three women make some big decisions about their future.

Mayfair Witches premieres December 1st

Mayfair Witches, Season 1 (2023 to present, United States)

This New Orleans-based supernatural drama is based on Anne Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy. The series follows Dr. Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario), a brilliant neurosurgeon who discovers she's the heir to a powerful and mysterious family of witches. As Rowan learns to navigate her newfound abilities, she becomes entangled with a sinister spirit named Lasher (Jack Huston), who has haunted the Mayfair family for generations. With the help of Ciprien Grieve (Tongayi Chirisa), a member of a secretive organization that monitors the supernatural, Rowan must confront her family's dark legacy while grappling with her own identity.

December 2nd Premieres

Dalgliesh returns December 2nd

Dalgliesh, Season 3

PD James's iconic detective/poet returns with another set of three challenging cases. This time, we're in 1979 and the UK is on the cusp of Margaret Thatcher's historic victory and all the change that went along with it. Episodes will premiere as follows:

  • December 2nd:
    • Death in Holy Orders, Part 1: Commander Dalgliesh heads to a seminary in West Sussex to investigate the bloody murder of a senior churchman. He finds that nearly everyone here had a personal grievance with the victim. And several of them are lying. 
    • Death in Holy Orders, Part 2: A second death shakes the order. As Commander Dalgliesh uncovers a secret agenda on the part of one of his suspects, the seminary falls further into disrepute. But perhaps this is the very key to unlocking the killer’s motive. 
  • December 9th
    • Cover Her Face, Part 1: A murder in the house of an influential family brings Commander Dalgliesh to the heart of Essex. As he considers the prospect of a politically motivated attack, a local man comes forward with an explosive allegation. 
    • Cover Her Face, Part 2: Through a pair of grueling interrogations, the victim’s life comes into sharper focus, but will it lead the police to their killer? After a shocking confession is made, Dalgliesh realizes he has been lied to. 
  • December 16th
    • Devices & Desires, Part 1: Kent police search for a serial killer targeting the female employees of a nuclear power station. Dalgliesh arrives to investigate a possible terrorist connection. 
    • Devices & Desires, Part 2 (SEASON FINALE):The hunt is on for a second killer as the threat to the local community looms larger than ever. Can Dalgliesh unpick a complex web of loyalties before it’s too late?

Inspector Rojas returns December 9th

Inspector Rojas, Season 2 (Chile, Spanish-language)

Now working as a private investigator for a law firm specializing in sexual crimes, Rojas takes on the case of a young man's mysterious disappearance. As he digs deeper, he uncovers buried truths about his own past while confronting a powerful institution determined to protect itself at any cost—even resorting to violence.

The Chelsea Detective returns December 16th

The Chelsea Detective, Season 3 Christmas Special

Adrian Scarborough returns as the Chelsea Detective in this murderously fun Christmas special. Former pop star and tabloid sensation Chloe Carmichael is discovered dead in her Chelsea mansion just days before Christmas. While an apparent drug overdose is initially suspected, forensics quickly reveal she was drowned in her bathtub. Max and the team are faced with a variety of suspects, including her ruthless manager, a scheming journalist, and a Tory MP—each hiding a secret link to Chloe. But which of them is her killer?

A Dance to the Music of Time returns to Acorn TV December 23rd

A Dance to the Music of Time (1997)

This sweeping adaptation of Anthony Powell's epic novel series, chronicles the lives, loves, and ambitions of a group of friends over several decades in 20th-century Britain. The story is narrated by Nick Jenkins (James Purefoy), a reflective writer who observes the shifting fortunes of those around him, including the charming but troubled Charles Stringham (Daniel Casey), the ambitious and unscrupulous Kenneth Widmerpool (Simon Russell Beale), and the enigmatic and alluring Jean Templer (Emma Fielding).

The series was previously on Acorn TV, but it left the platform back in December 2021.

Canal Boat Diaries adds seasons 3-4 on December 23rd

If you enjoy shows like Great Canal Journeys and Travels by Narrowboat, you'll be pleased to see Acorn TV is adding two more seasons of Canal Boat Diaries in December. The series follows as Robbie Cumming explores England's landscapes aboard a narrowboat called “The Naughty Lass”.

Together, they travel through Queensland’s breathtaking landscapes, uncovering secrets and deepening their friendship.

For Life premieres December 30th

For Life (2020, Norwegian)

Emmy award-winning writer Gjermund S. Eriksen brings us this series about Victoria Woll, a former police detective serving time in jail. In each episode we see her solving a unique crime, and it reveals a little piece of her past – and how she ended up behind bars. 

Interestingly, the team behind the series cited American shows Family Guy and How I Met Your Mother as inspirations for this “happy noir” crime drama and its unusual timeline.
