We've been having a bit of Agatha Raisin withdrawal lately, and after a little frantic Googling to try to find out more about a potential second series (no news yet), we found something that's nearly as good. Years ago, the BBC Radio 4 recorded dramatic radio plays to tell many of MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin stories. I was surprised to discover this, given the fact that radio plays haven't been popular in the United States for quite a few decades. The format is alive and well on BBC Radio 4, which is home to numerous spoken-word programs in the UK (including the Shipping Forecast you may remember from some episodes of As Time Goes By).

The part that's both strange and wonderful is that the Agatha Raisin radio plays feature the voice of Penelope Keith as Agatha. It's wonderful because Penelope Keith is a phenomenal actress who seems to be flawless in every performance – but it's also a little strange because I keep mentally sliding back into The Good Life and hearing her as Margo Leadbetter.

The Agatha Raisin Radio Drama Collection can be purchased at: Amazon | Amazon UK (US residents can order from either one)

Unlike with DVDs, there are no regional compatibility issues to be concerned with. I know this for certain because I've purchased quite a lot of CDs from the UK and they play just fine in the US.

Have you listened to the Agatha Raisin radio program, or any other dramatic radio programs from the UK? Let us know what you think in the comments!
