They may not be official detectives, but they’re back on the case. The Marlow Murder Club returns for a second season this August, reuniting viewers with three amateur sleuths who manage to outpace the professionals—armed with little more than intuition, nosiness, and tea.

Marlow Murder Club

Based on the novels by Death in Paradise creator Robert Thorogood, the series centers around Judith Potts, a retired archaeologist (puzzle setter in the books) who becomes an unlikely crime-solver when a murder occurs near her home. In Season 1, her solo sleuthing soon pulled in two equally unqualified but determined partners: Becks, the rule-following vicar’s wife, and Suzie, a sharp-witted dog walker with connections all over town.

In Season 2, the group is still going strong. When a former classmate is found dead during a school reunion, Judith, Becks, and Suzie are once again drawn into an investigation that forces them to untangle old grudges, buried secrets, and town politics. What seems at first like a tragic accident quickly reveals layers of deception – and no shortage of suspects.

Samantha Bond returns as archaeologist Judith Potts. Jo Martin once again plays the practical and outspoken Suzie, while Cara Horgan takes on the role of Becks.

Behind the scenes, the season is written by author Robert Thorogood, who adapts his own novels for television. Directing duties return to Steve Barron (The Durrells, Treasure Island), known for his ability to balance emotional nuance with a light, accessible touch. The show is produced by Monumental Television for MASTERPIECE and UKTV, with executive producers Debra Hayward, Alison Owen, and Alison Carpenter.

While Season 2 remains largely faithful to the book series, it does make adjustments to accommodate the format and deepen character arcs across episodes. As with the first season, each of the new episodes runs just under an hour.

Where and How to Watch

Season 2 of The Marlow Murder Club premieres in the U.S. on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 9/8c on most PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel. The series is part of a new Sunday mystery block on PBS, paired with Professor T Season 4 and Unforgotten Season 6.
