Acorn TV has announced their September lineup, and it's a super-short one – but if you've been enjoying The Assassin and Blue Murder Motel, you'll be pleased to see new episodes continuing through the month.

Blue Murder Motel continues in September

Blue Murder Motel (2026, New Zealand)

Retired Sydney detectives Vinny (Michala Banas, Upper Middle Bogan) and Cole (Brett Tucker, Station 19) move across the Tasman to begin a quieter life running a motel on the New Zealand coast. Their retirement does not last long, however, when a questionable death draws them back into investigative work and leads to further murder cases in their new community.

Episodes will premiere in September as follows:

September 7th, Episode 3 “A Thousand Dreadful Things” – A murder at Shady Vista Holiday Park ignites guest conflicts. Constable Jamie Haira recruits retired detectives Vinny and Cole, disrupting their peaceful coastal retirement plans.
September 14th, Episode 4 “Born Alone, Die Together” – Locals Maude and Martin are poisoned at dinner-she dies, he survives. Vinny and Cole investigate while cleaner Saffron and guest Maxine believe the new motel owners are hiding something.
September 21st, Episode 5 “Run For Your Life” – A raucous 30th birthday weekend turns deadly when a motel guest is attacked during a fun run. Her sister, a TV ad actress turned trophy wife, bullies Vinny and Cole into investigating the murder.
September 28th, Episode 6 “Cat Amongst Pigeons” – Local councilman Gordon is discovered dead at home. The sole witness is his designer cat, now gone. Cat posters appear throughout town as Vinny and Cole butt heads with a city detective trying to remove them from the case.

The Assassin (2025)

Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, The Durrells) stars as Julie, a retired contract killer living quietly on a Greek island. Her estranged son Edward (Freddie Highmore, The Good Doctor) arrives hoping to learn more about his family and the identity of his father, but their reunion is interrupted when Julie’s past catches up with her. Forced to go on the run together, mother and son must work out who is pursuing them and why. The six-part thriller also stars Gina Gershon, Jack Davenport, Richard Dormer, Shalom Brune-Franklin, and Alan Dale.

Episodes premiere as follows in September:

September 7th, Episode 2 – Julie and Edward struggle to keep their cover and her past secret while staying with new hosts, until an unexpected visitor makes everything more difficult.
September 14th, Episode 3 – Despite division in the group, similar solutions emerge as they're forced to continue while deadly peril approaches.
September 21st, Episode 4 – News of the island tragedy Julie and Edward saw spreads across Europe, making them targets of a police manhunt.
September 28th, Episode 5 – Piece by piece, the puzzle begins to fall into place for Julie. Does she know who is really behind the catastrophic chain of events?

My Salinger Year premieres September 21st

My Salinger Year (2020, American)

Set in 1990s New York, the film follows aspiring writer Joanna Rakoff (Margaret Qualley, The Substance) as she takes a job at the literary agency representing J.D. Salinger. Working under the formidable Phyllis Westberg (Sigourney Weaver, Avatar), Joanna is tasked in part with handling the author’s fan mail, even though agency policy requires that none of it receive a personal reply.

As she becomes more immersed in the literary world, Joanna begins questioning both the rules of the job and what she wants from her own writing life. Tim Post (Priscilla) appears as the famously reclusive Salinger, whose occasional contact with Joanna leaves a strong impression on her.
