Jo Conran spends her days in the air and her nights holding a family together—until news from overseas shatters the balance. Katherine Kelly (Mr Bates vs the Post Office) anchors a thriller where every decision carries a price.
What Is In Flight About?
Jo’s life unravels when she learns that her son, Sonny, has been imprisoned in Bulgaria for a murder he insists he did not commit. Almost immediately she is approached by Cormac, played by Stuart Martin (Miss Scarlet and The Duke, Rebel Moon), who reveals himself as part of a dangerous criminal gang with access to Sonny in prison. Cormac delivers a stark ultimatum. If Jo wants to keep her son alive, she'll have to use her routes and uniform to smuggle drugs through airports. The orders are precise, and the stakes are brutal.
Jo complies at first, moving contraband through tightly timed connections while trying to maintain the appearance of normality with colleagues and friends. The double life quickly becomes untenable. She turns to her ex, Dom Delaney, a customs officer played by Ashley Thomas (Top Boy, Them), hoping his insider knowledge can help her outmaneuver the people pulling the strings. As the operation escalates, Jo is forced to weigh risk against survival, and to decide how far she will go to protect Sonny. Across six hour-long episodes the story shifts between check-in desks, back corridors, airport lounges, and Jo’s increasingly perilous off-duty hours, building a cat-and-mouse thriller that pits family loyalty against organized crime.
Where Is In Flight Set & Filmed?
The drama is anchored in London, where Jo is based, and it leans into the rhythms of international air travel. The plot carries viewers to Bangkok and Istanbul, and back to Bulgaria where Sonny is being held. These locations feed the jet-setting pace, from neon-lit streets and crowded markets to the institutional chill of a foreign prison, while London’s flats, backstreets, and airport approaches keep the story grounded in the UK.
Although In Flight spans multiple countries on screen, production filmed in Belfast with support from Northern Ireland Screen. The city’s mix of modern terminals, warehouse districts, period streets, and adaptable interiors stood in for London neighborhoods, international airports, and overseas locations.
