The Jessops are back: the BBC has commissioned a fourth season of Here We Go and confirmed a standalone festive episode set around New Year’s Eve.
What’s the show about?
If you’re new to Here We Go, the mockumentary-style comedy follows the Jessop family as teen Sam documents everyday misadventures with his ever-present camera. Plans go sideways, tiny arguments snowball, and the humor comes from sharp, relatable details rather than big set pieces.
Season 1 set the tone with home-brew problem solving that rarely goes to plan. Job hunts stall, fitness kicks fizzle, and surprise celebrations backfire, all captured through Sam’s lens as the family tries to put a brave face on everyday chaos. Season 2 widened the scope, with bigger ambitions and higher stakes for the adults and kids alike. Rachel juggled work and household logistics, Paul chased schemes that promised quick wins, and Sam learned that filming an event and living through it are not the same thing. Season 3 leaned into growth and consequences without losing the show’s light touch, finding laughs in small decisions that spiral and in the way the Jessops stick together when it counts.
Across the run, the format stays consistent. Episodes hop between timelines as Sam edits together the “official” version of family life, letting punchlines land from different angles. The result is a warm, fast-moving series built on sharp one-liners, sight gags, and the kind of cringe you only get with people who know each other a little too well.
Who’s involved?
On screen, the returning ensemble includes Tom Basden (After Life), Jim Howick (Ghosts), Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd), Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey), Freya Parks (This Town), Jude Morgan-Collie (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder), Tori Allen-Martin (Unforgotten), Mica Ricketts (Best Interests), Ed Kear (The Batman), and Jon Furlong (The Last Kingdom).
Here We Go is a BBC Studios Comedy production for BBC One and iPlayer. Tom Basden creates and stars; Will Sinclair directs. Executive producers are Josh Cole, Will Sinclair, Tom Basden, and Steven Canny, with Gregor Sharp as BBC commissioning editor.
The New Year’s special: what we know
Rachel is set on throwing a massive New Year’s Eve party. Paul would prefer a quiet holiday cottage with a sauna to deal with an ill-timed boil on his cheek. Cue a classic Jessop saga involving a road trip, a missing dummy, and a crate of unlicensed fireworks Paul picked up at a police auction.
When Will It Air?
Not surprisingly, the New Year's special is expected to air in the UK during their New Year's holiday programming (no specifics released yet). Though we haven't heard anything official, we wouldn't be surprised if BritBox announced a US release sometime around then or soon after. They occasionally have small delays on the big holiday specials, but they're currently the US home for previous seasons, so we wouldn't expect it to show up somewhere else (but again, they've yet to confirm).
As for season 4, it's still a bit too soon for a date. We know the special will come first, so it's reasonable to assume season 4 will premiere in 2026. We'll update when we know more. For now, American readers can catch up on previous seasons HERE.
