Keira Knightley (Black Doves, The Imitation Game) takes the lead in The Woman in Cabin 10, Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Ruth Ware’s bestselling mystery novel. The first official trailer has just been released, offering a glimpse into the psychological thriller set aboard a luxury superyacht – and Knightley’s character isn’t letting anyone tell her she imagined what she saw.

The Basics

Keira Knightley and John MacMillan

Knightley stars as Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a travel journalist who’s sent to cover the inaugural voyage of an opulent cruise through the Norwegian fjords. But what should have been an enjoyable and indulgent work assignment takes a sinister turn when Lo believes she witnesses a woman being thrown overboard.

To her horror, everyone insists nothing happened. The boat’s owner claims all passengers are accounted for. The authorities shrug. But Lo is certain of what she saw – and determined to uncover the truth, even if it puts her own life in danger.

Cast & Characters

Hannah Waddingham and David Morrissey

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Guy Pearce (A Spy Among Friends, Memento) plays Richard Bullmer, the enigmatic billionaire behind the cruise. Kaya Scodelario (Skins, The Pale Horse) appears as Grace, a high-profile influencer. Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen, Lovesick) is Adam, a wealthy media heir, while Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) brings the chaos as the gossipy Heidi.

David Ajala (Supergirl, Star Trek: Discovery) plays Ben, a photographer and one of the few who might be on Lo’s side. Other cast members include Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface), David Morrissey (Sherwood), Art Malik (The Little Drummer Girl), Paul Kaye (Vera), Amanda Collin (Raised by Wolves), and Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure).

Direction & Inspiration

The film is written and directed by Simon Stone (The Dig), who made clear that this is not a story about doubt: “You never question whether or not she saw what she saw. It’s her struggle against the conspiracy.”

Stone cites 1970s thrillers like The Conversation, Klute, and Three Days of the Condor as tonal references, as well as Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes, which shares thematic DNA with Ware’s novel — particularly the idea of a woman seeing something no one else will acknowledge.

Premiere Details & Trailer

The Woman in Cabin 10 will premiere globally on Netflix on October 10, 2025

About the Book & Author

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

The Woman in Cabin 10 is based on the 2016 bestselling novel by British author Ruth Ware, sometimes dubbed the “Agatha Christie of our time.” The book was her breakout hit and became a New York Times bestseller, praised for its tense atmosphere and claustrophobic setting. It was her second novel, following In a Dark, Dark Wood.

Ware’s work often explores the stories of female protagonists thrust into mysterious and dangerous situations, and Cabin 10 remains one of her most well-known and widely read books to date (though personally, I preferred Zero Days).
